Raina Telgemeier, a middle-grade graphic novelist and a #1 New York Times bestselling author, will share a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of her graphic memoir, Smile, with students and educators on Thursday, October 26, 10 – 11 at Main Library in downtown Akron.
Raina will discuss her memories of middle school, dentistry, frenemies, and finding solace in making comics. She will also share anecdotes and a peek at creating a graphic novel. A question and answer period will follow Raina’s presentation.
Raina is the author and illustrator of the graphic novels Smile, Drama, Sisters, Ghosts, and Guts, all #1 New York Times bestsellers. She also adapted and illustrated four graphic novel versions of Ann M. Martin’s Baby-Sitters Club series and has contributed short stories to many anthologies. Raina’s accolades include five Eisner Awards, a Boston Globe-Horn Book Honor, a Stonewall Honor, and many Best-of and Notables lists.
