Your Akron-Summit County Public Library card opens the door to a world of information and entertainment. Use your card to check out a wide variety of materials from any library location or access the Internet on library computers. Have your own device? Use it to borrow digital media, including ebooks, magazines, movies and music from the comfort of your own home – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Your card also gives you instant access to many of the library's research databases from your home, office or school computer.
Anyone living, working, or attending school in Ohio may obtain a library card free of charge at any ASCPL location. Children may obtain a library card with the consent of a parent or legal guardian. When applying for a card, we prefer to see a photo ID with current address. Since that is not always possible, we will accept a photo ID and another form of current address verification, such as a piece of mail.
No Akron-Summit County Public Library card? No problem! Apply for a card online and start using the Library’s digital resources. Stream movies, download ebooks and audiobooks, consult a database, take courses online and so much more. This option is available for individuals 18 and older who live, work or attend school in Ohio. When you are ready to upgrade and borrow materials in person, bring your photo ID to any of the Library’s locations and update your card.
Getting an ASCPL Online Library Card is a two-step process. It requires having a mobile phone for the verification process. As part of the notification for a successful application you will receive a couple of texts to the mobile phone number you provide (standard text message rates apply).
First, register for an Instant Digital Card through the Akron-Summit County Public Library’s Overdrive page or in the Libby app. If your application is approved, you will receive a text with a login to gain immediate access to the content in Overdrive and Libby.
You will later receive a second text containing your official Online Library Barcode and PIN, which will allow access to all of our online library resources.
To obtain a full-access Library Card (check out books, music, DVD’s, and more), please bring a photo ID and proof of current address to any library location.
