Only partial indexes exist for some years prior to 1890. Obituaries may be found under the heading for "deaths" or under the last name of the individual. Murders, accidents or other deaths by violence are indexed under the person’s name; divorces are generally found under the names of the parties involved. To request a copy of an article cited in the indexes, please contact us.

For obituary citations after 1939, see our Akron Beacon Journal Obituary Indexes, 1937-present, as well as the Hayes Research Library’s Ohio Obituary Index, which allows you to search across all years.

Text-only versions of articles 1984-present are available with an ASCPL library card through NewsBank.  You may search the Akron Beacon Journal 1872-present through Newspapers.com, but you must have a private subscription to view articles. The Library of Congress’ Chronicling America project provides free access to many issues of Akron Daily Democrat May 1, 1899-December 31, 1902.

To view index files, your computer must have the free Adobe Acrobat Reader application installed.
