AKRON, OHIO — The Main Event Many Voices series presented by Akron-Summit County Public Library will welcome Leah and Richard Rothstein to the Main Library Auditorium (60 S. High St, Akron, OH 44326) on Friday, May 10 at 7 PM. Richard Rothstein will be presenting virtually, while his daughter and co-author, Leah, will be in-person to discuss their book “Just Action: How to Challenge Segregation Enacted Under the Color of Law.” Registration is not required. Doors open at 6:30 PM and seating, as well as a free book giveaway, is first come, first served.

“Just Action,” published last year, is meant as “a blueprint for concerned citizens and community leaders” to address ongoing issues caused by segregation. Those issues were detailed in Richard Rothstein’s best-selling and award-winning “The Color of Law: A Forgotten History of How Our Government Segregated America” (2017).

The author talk is the culmination of several days’ worth of programs facilitated by the Akron-Summit County Public Library in partnership with community organizations to discuss and address housing inequality in the region. Leading up to the author event, the Main Library will host a housing legal clinic on Wednesday, May 8 from 6-8 PM and a special screening of “Doubled Up,” a documentary exploring homelessness affecting Akron Public Schools students, on Thursday, May 9 at 6:30 PM.

The Just Action series has been planned in coordination with the following sponsors: East Ohio Conference of The United Methodist Church, Fair Housing Contact Service, Living Water Association of the United Church of Christ (Ohio NorthEast), and the Akron-Summit County Public Library. The Just Action series offers facilitated discussions of a local issue: housing inequality.
