Are you a resident of Summit County who is having difficulty getting to the library, as often as you would like, due to illness or disability? Perhaps you are permanently homebound, recuperating, or caring for a family member that is experiencing these hardships. The Akron-Summit County Public Library can offer library-by-mail service free of charge to customers of all ages!
Eligibility
Registration is required. If you would like to register for the library-by-mail service, please fill out our online form and the mail outreach librarian will be in touch with you regarding your request.
Please note: Summit County has numerous library systems supported by local taxpayers. For this reason, the Akron-Summit County Public Library is not able to offer library-by-mail service to residents of Barberton, Stow, Hudson, or Cuyahoga Falls (with the exception of customers living within the Woodridge school district).
Library Materials and Returns
Once you are registered by the mail outreach librarian, you can receive almost anything the library has to offer.
- Books
- Magazines
- Audio Books (Books on CD and Playaways)
- DVDs
- Music CDs
- Movies (DVD and described DVD)
The mail outreach librarian uses the U.S. Postal Service to send Library materials to patron homes in blue or orange library bags. Postage is paid by the library to your home and back.
To Return Materials, follow these instructions:
- Turn address card over in the pocket so that library address and postage are showing and tape in place.
- Remove return plastic tie from date due envelope.
- Make sure that library materials and date due envelope are in pouch.
- Zip pouch shut and place self-locking plastic tie through these two items: a) Mailing Pouch b) Zipper Pull
- Secure and mail.
