The Akron-Summit County Public Library, in both its Main Library and branch libraries, presents exhibits in order to engage, inform, and enlighten Library visitors. Exhibit spaces are designated for use by the Library and are intended to encourage use of Library materials, programs, and services. Library exhibits focus on library programming, services, or resources and highlight subjects of public interest; they do not present a partisan viewpoint. In accordance with the Library’s Collection Development Policy, inclusion of an item in an exhibit does not represent an endorsement by the Library.

The Library uses a variety of options for exhibits including Library display cases, tables, shelves, and free-standing fixtures. Because of limited space, these options are not available at all locations. The branch or division manager responsible for creating an exhibit in a display case or on tables or shelves may invite local individuals, local non-profit groups, and units of government to provide items for a display as a complement to the Library’s materials.

The Library may invite units of government and local non-profit groups to collaborate on the provision of temporary free-standing exhibits at Main Library. No candidate for public office, or governmental entity, that is to appear on an election ballot may be named or otherwise identified in an exhibit within 30 days before the election. No fundraising materials and no materials exclusively promoting for-profit and commercial products or services are permitted in Library exhibits. Additionally, the Library will not sell, or promote the sale of, items on display.

Approved by the Board of Trustees on July 25, 2013.
