Duties & Responsibilities:

The ASCPL is hiring a TechZone Assistant to support our Mission Statement to provide resources for learning and leisure, information services, meeting spaces, and programs for all ages that support, improve, and enrich individual, family, and community life.

Work involves performing a variety duties requiring specialized knowledge and experience with technology, including, but not limited to computers, software, emerging technologies such as the makerspace equipment available in the TechZone@Main,  and the Internet; assisting customers in using Library provided technology and technology owned by the customer; assisting customers in using software, the Internet, Maker equipment, and related applications; assisting and instructing customers with computer skills in person, by phone, and email; performs opening and closing routines; performs a variety of clerical tasks; answers telephones; and performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Required:  Eligibility to become a passport agent and eligibility to maintain authorization by the U.S. Department of State National Passport Center to accept passports, eligibility to become a notary, and a High School Diploma or G.E.D. required; completion of two years of college preferred or an equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience. Previous customer service experience required.

An interest in and aptitude for library work in a technology-based setting; ability to effectively troubleshoot basic computer, device, and software problems; excellent customer relation skills, advanced level computer skills and aptitude for effectively helping customers with various hardware and software; knowledge of MS Windows/Microsoft Office products, electronic communication, database use, and Internet use; learn new and updated software, procedures and Maker equipment; ability to give instruction effectively; ability to interact patiently with and provide service in a manner which is respectful to customers of all ages; cultures, socioeconomic levels, and levels of computer knowledge; and ability to effectively multi-task.

Preferred:  Completion of two years of college or an equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience. Previous library work and computer lab experience.
