Joseph Rubin and His Orchestra will present Sentimental Journey: Musical Memories of Summit Beach Park Friday, May 13, from 7:30 to 9:30 pm at the Main Library Auditorium in downtown Akron.
The performance will highlight Portsmouth, Ohio, native bandleader Clyde McCoy and his "Sugar Blues" Orchestra. An Akron favorite, McCoy performed four times at Summit Beach Park from 1937-to 1946 and an additional nine appearances at the Palace Theatre and other Akron venues. From 1917 to 1958, summers in Akron meant one thing: Summit Beach Park.
An expert on American popular music, Mr. Rubin specializes in concerts recreating the music of 1890-1949 in a historically accurate manner. Mr. Rubin founded the American Musical Productions and is one of the foremost authorities on early American Musical Theatre.
The concert is free, and registration is not required. Doors to the auditorium open at 7 pm and the show begin at 7:30 pm.
