North Hill, Ohio – June 19, 2024 – Following its successful debut last year, the Books, Bites & Beats festival is set to return on Saturday, July 20, 2024, from 10 am to 5 pm at People’s Park in North Hill. This unique festival, a collaboration between the North Hill Branch Library and North Hill Community Development Corporation, promises a day filled with literary delights, gourmet food trucks, live DJs, and family-friendly activities.
The festival brings together a variety of Northeast Ohio booksellers, featuring a diverse selection of genres and titles from independent vendors such as JC's Comics and Cards, Elizabeth’s Bookshop & Writing Centre, Learned Owl Book Shop, and more. Attendees can explore a wide range of offerings including zines, poetry, local history, children’s books, comics, and bestselling fiction.
"We are thrilled to bring back Books, Bites & Beats for its second year," said North Hill Branch Library Branch Manager, Katie Hughes. "This event celebrates the vibrant literary and culinary cultures of Akron, offering something for everyone in our community."
This year's festivities will include:
- Literary and Creative Workshops: Kent State University’s Francisco L. Torres, Ph.D., will host the Creativity and Storytelling Center, inviting guests of all ages to explore art, comics, and cosplay.
- PBS ideastream Engagement: PBS ideastream will provide literacy resources for parents, PBS Kids game and video app demonstrations, and interactive activities for children throughout the day.
- Screen Printing with Zygote Press: From 3 to 5 pm, attendees can screen print their own limited-edition Books, Bites & Beats tote bag with assistance from Zygote Press.
- Live DJ Sets: Enjoy a lineup of talented DJs including Brittany "DJ RED-I" Benton, Vince "Vinny G" Giles, and Tony "Brainwreck" Preto, spinning a mix of hip-hop, funk, 90’s pop, and more.
Guests are invited to indulge in local cuisine from food trucks and vendors while enjoying live music, giveaways, and raffle prizes. Admission to the event is free, with opportunities to purchase books, food, and festival merchandise.
