Peer to Peer University

The Akron-Summit County Public Library helps you meet your learning goals with Peer-to-Peer University (P2PU).

Peer 2 Peer University Learning Circles are free study groups for people who want to take online classes together and in-person. As a member of a Learning Circle you will:

  • Enjoy the support of your peers in learning a new skill, exploring engaging topics, investigating a new hobby, and more;
  • Set your own learning goals;
  • Attend one meeting each week for 4-8 weeks;
  • Participate with other learners in viewing an online course of interest to all (content is delivered in a lecture or how-to style, as best fits the topic);
  • Expand on what you’ve viewed through group discussion, guest speakers, or small in-class projects, facilitated by a librarian; and,
  • Receive a P2PU certificate with your successful completion of the course.

Spring P2PU Learning Circles begin soon! Class participants will explore story creation, history, music and music-making, and more, as they bring their own experiences, perspectives, and questions together to shape each Learning Circle. Choose from one or more of the following:

Smithsonian’s Objects That Define America

Fairlawn-Bath Branch Library, Tuesdays, March 10-March 31, 1 pm
Main Library, Wednesdays, March 4-March 25, 12:15 pm
Explore the history of America through the view of key historic objects, inventions, and exhibits in the Smithsonian collections.

Learn to Write Fiction

Main Library, Mondays, March 23-April 27, 6:30 pm
Explore how to write fiction--character development, setting & basic world building, plot & structure, description, dialogue & action, and revision & self-editing.

Music Technology Foundations

Main Library, Tuesdays, March 24-April 21, 1 pm
Learn how to use creative technologies to make your own music and get a step closer to a career in music.

History of Rock, 1970-1995

Nordonia Hills Branch Library, Thursdays, April 30-May 28, 6 pm
Discover how punk, disco, hip hop, and heavy metal evolved from rock and roll, primarily as it unfolded in the United States during the early 1970s to the early 1990s.

Science of Well-Being and Happiness
