Peer to Peer University

The Akron-Summit County Public Library helps you meet your learning goals with our new program, Peer to Peer University (P2PU).

Peer 2 Peer University Learning Circles are free study groups for people who want to take online classes together and in-person. As a member of a Learning Circle you will:

  • Enjoy the support of your peers in learning a new skill, exploring engaging topics, investigating a new hobby, and more;
  • Set your own learning goals;
  • Attend one meeting each week for 4-8 weeks;
  • Participate with other learners in viewing an online course of interest to all (content is delivered in a lecture or how-to style, as best fits the topic);
  • Expand on what you’ve viewed through group discussion, guest speakers, or small in-class projects, facilitated by a librarian; and,
  • Receive a P2PU certificate with your successful completion of the course.

Fall P2PU Learning Circles begin very soon! Class participants will explore story creation, presentation skills, music-making, and more, as they bring their own experiences, perspectives, and questions together to shape each Learning Circle. Choose from one or more of the following:

The Art of Storytelling (Green Branch Library), Mondays, October 21-November 25, 1 pm

From Khan Academy and the creators at Pixar. What makes a story great? How can you become an excellent storyteller? Gain improved storytelling understanding and strengthen your storytelling skills now!

Introduction to the Music Business (Main Library), Tuesdays, October 8-November 12, 1 pm

From the Berklee College of Music. Thinking about a career in music? Or are you a curious listener who wants to know more about how it all works? Learn about the rapidly changing music industry, from recording, publishing, and distribution to legal issues.

DIY: Improve Your Online Presence (Main Library), Fridays, October 18-November 22, 10:30 am

From Wix Education. How can others learn more about your organization or business? Learn how to make and maintain your very own professional website using Wix. Build high quality content for free!

Childhood in the Digital Age (Tallmadge Branch Library), Wednesdays, October 9-November 20, 2 pm

From OpenLearn. How is technology changing the way that children think and how will it shape the way children learn and live in the future? Is social media changing the way that children relate to others? Parents, grandparents, educators, neighbors, and friends--if you have young people in your life, you won't want to miss this important learning opportunity!
