Duties & Responsibilities:

The ASCPL is hiring a Youth Services Assistant to support our Mission Statement to provide resources for learning and leisure, information services, meeting spaces, and programs for all ages that support, improve, and enrich individual, family, and community life.

The Youth Services Assistant assists the Youth Services Office and Early Childhood and Intermediate/Teen Librarians throughout the system as they provide public service; coordinates the flow of work in the office; assists in the coordination of the Summer Reading Program, including ordering and distribution of materials; coordinates Youth Summer Reading performer scheduling, letters, agreements, and requisitions; coordinates all aspects of teen and children’s programming equipment; prepares and maintains statistics; updates, prepares, and assembles packets for workshop system-wide; receives orders from branches and community organizations; assembles, distributes, and maintains inventory for Books for Babies program; monitors and maintains craft supply inventory; collects supply requests from branches; performs a variety of administrative support duties, including but not limited to, preparing miscellaneous correspondence, reports, scheduling, filing, recordkeeping, ordering and maintaining departmental supplies, answering departmental telephones, greeting departmental visitors, processing and distributing departmental mail, scheduling service calls as needed, and performing other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Required:  Completion of two years of college.  Excellent customer service skills.  Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including demonstrated proof-reading ability.  Ability to follow verbal and written instruction.  Excellent computer skills with proficiency in MS Office applications.  Strong organization skills, including prioritizing work effectively; multi-tasking by efficiently and steadily completing daily duties and special projects; record-keeping ability; and working with and maintaining confidential information.  Ability to bend, stoop, stand, reach, and lift with or without reasonable accommodation.

Preferred:  Possession of a bachelor’s degree, library experience, and administrative assistant experience.
