Duties & Responsibilities:

The ASCPL is hiring a Security Officer at our Goodyear Branch Library to support our Mission Statement to provide resources for learning and leisure, information services, meeting spaces, and programs for all ages that support, improve, and enrich individual, family, and community life. This position performs a variety of duties as related to the security of Library facilities, employees, and customers, including, but not limited to: patrolling the building, grounds, and parking lot; securing the building at closing and setting alarm systems or assisting as needed; being the last person to leave the Library premises; monitoring electronic or video security system; observing customer behavior and intervening when problems occur; advising Library customers of behavior guidelines and enforcing those guidelines; assisting with the evacuation or movement of the employee and public in emergency situations; performing routine recordkeeping activities and completing incident reports; and accompanying Library employees to parking areas when requested.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Required: High school diploma or equivalent. CPR/First Aid Certification within one year of hire. Knowledge of facility and employee security principles and practices. Skill in customer service. Ability to assess potential problem situations quickly and discreetly and effectively deescalate them without disruption of Library services to the public. Understanding of the principles of intellectual freedom. Ability to use a computer and job-related software or systems applicable to the essential functions of the job. Moderate physical effort, including considerable standing and walking. Lifting moderate to heavy objects (more than 25 pounds) and carrying them short distances (50 feet or less). Ability to pass criminal background and education verification checks.
