Duties & Responsibilities:

The ASCPL is hiring one full-time Security Officer at the North Hill branch library and one part-time Security Officer at the Main Library to support our Mission Statement to provide resources for learning and leisure, information services, meeting spaces, and programs for all ages that support, improve, and enrich individual, family, and community life.

This position performs a variety of duties as related to the security of Library facilities, employees, and customers, including, but not limited to: complying with all safety policies and procedures; performing routine recordkeeping activities; patrolling interior and exterior of Library buildings; securing buildings at closing and setting alarm systems; accompanying Library employees to parking areas; responsible to being the last person to leave the Library premises; monitoring electronic or video security system; advising Library customers of behavior guidelines and enforcing those guidelines; observing customer behavior and intervening when problems occur; assisting with evacuation and movement of staff and public in emergency situations; completing incident reports as necessary; and other duties as assigned.  Work may require travel between Main and Branch libraries; must have reliable transportation.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Required:  High school diploma or equivalent.  Possession of a valid Ohio Driver’s license or the ability to obtain one.  Good customer relations skills and a pleasing personality.  Demonstrated ability for independent thinking and decision-making to assess potential problems situations quickly and discreetly and effectively defuse them without disruption of library services.  Ability to work with minimal supervision.  Ability to speak and write effectively.  Ability to work well with others.  Ability to operate a PC and other library equipment.  Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time and effective hearing and vision.

Preferred:  Experience in the field of building security.  Customer service experience.
