Accountant/Payroll Supervisor

Hours: Full-Time (40 hours) not job-share eligible, works evenings and weekend hours as required
Salary: Grade 14, $26.06 hourly, Exempt


Performs a variety of accounting duties including but not limited to the processing, reviewing, auditing and approving of payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, purchase orders, inventory, journal entries, month-end and year–end closing, reconciliations, system reports, employee and vendor information; assists with planning and implementing internal controls, policies and procedures for payroll, budgetary, cash handling, inventory, and record retention to comply with legal requirements and promote more efficient workflows; assists with budget planning, reporting and maintenance; completes and files payroll, wage, tax and OPERS reports, insurances and other payroll-related obligations; submits payments and maintains all related records; completes reporting of Section 125 deductions to plan providers;  transmits  payroll, direct deposit files and taxes electronically; prepares and reports W-2 forms; and selects, evaluates and supervises the Payroll Assistant whose primary responsibility is payroll processing.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Demonstrated knowledge of accounting and payroll practices; ability to proficiently use software packages such as MS Office Suite, inventory, database, accounting and payroll software; demonstrated ability to direct the work of others; maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers; ability to work independently, prioritize work, multi-task, make sound decisions; ability to meet deadlines with high rate of accuracy; ability to work with and maintain confidential information. Possession of a bachelor’s degree and previous accounting experience required OR an equivalent combination of education, training and accounting experience may be considered; previous payroll experience required; previous supervisory experience preferred.
