Thanks to the support of federal funds from the State Library of Ohio’s American Rescue Plan Act 2021 Outreach Grant and in collaboration with the METRO RTA, the Akron-Summit County Public Library will launch Library On the Go, self-serve portals that provide convenient and quick access to Library resources.

A press conference launching the new initiative is scheduled for Tuesday, January 30, at 8:30 am at the Robert K. Pfaff Transit Center, 631 South Broadway Street, Akron, OH 44311.

With their Library cards, users may borrow and return physical items using the Library lockers and return box and scan QR codes to access needed information and online tools to explore ideas, topics, and reading for pleasure.

Users may also:

  • Learn more about METRO RTA, including maps and schedules
  • Sign up for a Library card
  • Borrow digital media such as e-books, downloadable audiobooks, magazines, and more
  • Explore Library events
  • Find Library locations
  • Request reading recommendations

Library Executive Director Pam Hickson-Stevenson said, “The purpose of the Library On the Go project is to expand access to the Library’s resources by installing equipment that will offer both physical and digital materials to riders of METRO RTA.”

“The Library is providing a convenient, creative, and innovative way for accessing digital and physical Library resources to current and potential Library customers in a location used by thousands of people every day,” said Hickson-Stevenson.

“We’d like to thank the State Library of Ohio for their support of this endeavor and METRO RTA for partnering with us,” she added.

Dawn Distler, METRO RTA CEO, said, “METRO’s partnership with the Akron-Summit County Public Library system is one we are proud of and embrace. This partnership currently allows the community to ride METRO Direct on the first Thursday of each month with their library card, and now we are making access to the library services easier for our transit-loyal riders. The Library On the Go in our transit center puts library services right in the path of our riders’ daily travel, making it more convenient to utilize the amazing resources of the ASCPL.”

The initiative is made possible by federal funds from the State Library of Ohio’s American Rescue Plan Act 2021 Outreach Grant.
