Events Assistant

Date: June 11, 2018
Location: Main Library Events Department
Hours: Full-Time (37.5 hours), including evenings and weekend hours (see below)
Salary: Grade 8, $15.74/hour

Responsibilities:

Performs a variety of duties related to the Library’s coordination of special events and the use of its facilities for meetings and programs, including the development, planning, scheduling and implementation of programs and special events; monitoring events; assisting in providing audio visual support, including setting up, operating, and removing audio visual equipment/technology in the Auditorium, meeting rooms, and other spaces as required; maintaining all Auditorium technical boards and equipment; maintaining inventory; and performing other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices in the field of event planning; effective record-keeping techniques; demonstrated ability to think, work and make decisions independently with attention to detail and accuracy; ability to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and customers; organizational skills, including ability to juggle multiple priorities; demonstrated creative ability with excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to follow written and verbal direction. Ability to lift, move, set up and take down tables/chairs weighing up to 60 lbs. Previous customer service experience, proficiency in the use of AV equipment, and proficiency in Microsoft Office required.  Completion of two years of college required; Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred. Must be available to work a flexible schedule Monday – Sunday including hours beginning at 6:00 a.m. and ending at 11:00 p.m.

Librarian - Early Childhood

Date: June 4, 2018
Location: Firestone Park Branch
Hours: Full-Time (37.5 hours), including evenings and weekend hours
Salary: Grade 11, $19.96/hour

Responsibilities:

Provides services to the age group of infants through age eight, including: collection maintenance and marketing; planning and conducting programs; actively representing the Library through visits to schools, pre-schools, day care centers, and Head Start programs; establishing sustained community engagement relationships with local  organizations and agencies; providing reference and readers’ advisory; creating an attractive and appealing children’s area; cooperating closely with the Intermediate/YA Librarian in providing family and multi-age programming; performing daily circulation routines; supervising the branch in the absence of the Branch Manager, and performing other tasks as assigned.    

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of professional library science including familiarity with reference and bibliographic resources in the early childhood areas; good knowledge of reader interest levels, publishers and their practices and child development; ability to develop programs; good research skills; ability to speak and write effectively; sound professional judgment; ability to direct the work of others; and good customer relation skills including a pleasing personality and the ability to get along well with others.  A Master of Library and Information Science degree issued by an ALA-accredited school of library and information science is required and some previous library experience is preferred.  Applicants with 6 credit hours or less towards completion of the MLIS will also be considered under certain conditions.  Individuals hired under these conditions will begin as a Public Service Assistant III, Grade 10, Step 1 ($19.42/hr), and upon confirmation of completion of the MLIS degree will be moved to Librarian, Grade 11, Step 1 ($19.96/hr).

Librarian

Hours: Full-Time (37.5 hours), possible evenings and weekend hours; not job-share eligible
Salary: Grade 11, $19.96/hour

Responsibilities:

Performs a variety of professional library duties as related to the centralized selection development, and maintenance of the Library’s collection.  Selects appropriate materials in assigned areas.  Identifies materials for purchase by reading reviews, reviewing advertisements and publisher/vendor catalogs, and meeting with vendors; monitors best seller lists; assesses customer requests and staff suggestions and analyzes statistical data.  Serves as a system-wide expert in specific collection areas and/or formats.  Assists customers at public service desks as required.  Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Candidates will possess demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of library science as they apply to collection development and intellectual freedom; excellent customer service skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; ability to think and work independently; ability to speak and write effectively; and sound professional judgment. Experience with public library service and collection development required. A Master of Library and Information Science degree from an ALA-accredited school of Library and Information Science required.  Travel between Main Library and branches required.  Customer service experience preferred. Ohio Public Library Certification preferred.

Public Service Assistant II

**The individual hired for this position will be deployed in various Library agencies, including Main and all branches, as needed on a daily basis.
Hours: Full-time (37.5), including evening and weekend hours
Salary: Grade 7, $13.65/hour

Responsibilities:

Assists customers in the routine selection and location of library materials and in utilizing library technology; answers routine reference questions; registers borrowers; performs routine circulation duties; maintains circulation records; collects fines and charges for payment of lost materials; monitors floating collections; performs collection maintenance and merchandising tasks; performs opening and closing routines; performs a variety of clerical tasks and other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

An interest in and aptitude for library work; willingness to learn professional library techniques; good customer-relation skills, including a pleasing personality and ability to work well with others; record-keeping ability; ability to perform simple typing/PC tasks with reasonable speed and accuracy; ability to handle delivery bags and crates and push book carts loaded with materials, with or without reasonable accommodation; customer service experience and completion of two years of college required; previous library work experience and possession of a bachelor’s degree preferred.  Valid Ohio Driver’s License is required with reliable transportation to all agencies within the Library system.
