Family History Center Affiliate

The Akron-Summit County Public Library is an Affiliate Library of the Family History Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. This affiliate status allows ASCPL card holders to borrow microfilm directly from the Genealogical Society of Utah. Many resources held by the library in Salt Lake City have been microfilmed and are available for loan for a small fee. The holdings of the Family History Center Library may be searched via their libary catalog:

The cost to borrow a reel of microfilm is $7.50. You order and pay online in a few easy steps. The first step is to create a free account with Family Search. If you already have an account, simply go to their film ordering page:, and sign in. The rest is easy, much like ordering from any online vendor. Once the film arrives, you will receive an email notification that it is available to be used here in Special Collections.

For more information, please contact the Special Collections Division at 330.643.9030 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Census Resources

The library provides free access to Federal Population Schedules from 1790 to 1940 through three databases: Ancestry Library Edition, which is available from within any Akron-Summit County Public Library, as well as Heritage Quest and My Heritage / World Vital records, which are available from any library or any computer with internet access using an ASCPL card. All databases may be accessed using the links on our Research Databases page.

Special Collections also has several non-population schedules for Summit County available on microfilm. Links to online indexes to these schedules are provided below. If you find a name in an index and would like to request copies of the pages pertaining to that person, contact us.
