Description
The military history of Tallmadge is a proud one and the community’s observance of Decoration Day – now known as Memorial Day – a long one. The first such memorial to the community’s veterans was held on May 30, 1868 when a small group of wives, mothers, and sisters of men who had given their lives for their country gathered in the cemetery with flowers. Over the years, the observance grew to include band music and parades. Seen here in 1908 is the procession coming from the cemetery and led by Palmer’s 8th Regiment Band of Akron.
