Human Resources Assistant

Location: Main Library - Human Resources Department
Hours: Full-time (37.5 hours), may rarely include evening and weekend hours, not job-share-eligible
Salary: Grade 8, $15.74/hour

Responsibilities:

Assists with the hiring process by coordinating the job posting, employment application/resume, and interview process, including preparing and distributing job postings, receiving and tracking employment applications, and scheduling employment interviews. Assists with employee orientation, prepares materials and conducts the HR portion of employee orientation in the absence of the HR Generalist. Serves as point person for the Human Resource Information System (HRIS), including entering data and generating reports. Coordinates all phases of the yearly service award program. Maintains the personnel filing system and employee history, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. Prepares the monthly personnel report for the Board of Trustees meeting. Assists with benefits administration, including open enrollment. Serves as the primary contact between the Administrative Reception desk and Human Resources. Collects and prepares human resource statistics; orders and maintains departmental supplies; and other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including demonstrated proof-reading skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy; excellent customer-service skills, including pleasant personality, professionalism and diplomacy; excellent computer skills with proficiency in MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook; outstanding organization skills, including ability to prioritize work effectively; ability to multi-task by efficiently and steadily completing daily duties and special projects; ability to exercise good judgment and discernment in decision-making;  ability to work with and maintain confidential information; and a minimum of two years of previous administrative support experience required. Previous experience in human resources, familiarity with employment laws, and experience with Access and HRIS Software, and completion of at least two years of college strongly preferred.

Branch Library Manager*

*The branch manager will also serve as the Adult Librarian

Salary: Grade 15, $28.07/hour

Responsibilities:

Manages all branch operations, including interviewing, scheduling, evaluating, and training of branch employees; manages the branch facility, including overseeing the general building maintenance; maintains positive public relations with the community by promoting library services, working closely with The Friends group and developing rapport with customers, key community leaders and organizations; develops library programs for children, young adults or adults; oversees children, young adult and adult materials collections, and branch book inventory; provides general reference services to customers, including readers’ advisory and book talks, and performs other tasks as necessary.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Proven aptitude in professional library science, preferably in a public library setting, including a comprehensive knowledge of reference sources, reader interest levels, books and authors; demonstrated supervisory skills; ability to assess community interests and needs and develop programs and services accordingly; excellent customer service skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; professional presentation skills and sound professional judgment.  A Master of Library and Information Science degree issued by an ALA-accredited school of library and information science and extensive professional librarian experience are required.
