We seek a Librarian to work collaboratively within the Special Collections team and with the ASCPL system as a whole while exhibiting the ASCPL Core Values of Excellence, Service, Learning, and Diversity and Inclusion.  The position is based in our Special Collections Department at the Main Akron-Summit County Public Library, close to a variety of dining and shopping options.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Performs a variety of professional library duties as related to the maintenance of customer service for the Special Collections department, including creating local history and genealogy programs; providing tours for Library customers; giving presentations to community groups; maintaining budgets for programs, materials, and supplies; actively engaging in relationships with community agencies that focus on local history and/or genealogy, including non-profit, government, school, and business organizations; processing, digitizes, and creates metadata for archival collections employing standard archival practices; reviewing and maintaining materials to be included in Archives Catalog and Summit Memory; digitally reproducing historic materials from microfilm, documents, photos, and other materials for customers; and performing other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Required: A Master of Library and Information Science degree from an ALA accredited School of Library and Information Science required.  Previous customer service experience required.  Experience working in a library, archive, museum, or cultural heritage organization preferred.  Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of library science and archival standards, including experience processing archival collections.  Demonstrated ability to learn new processes and technologies.  Familiarity with image processing software and digital collection management systems. Applicants with 7 credit hours or less towards completion of the MLIS will also be considered under certain conditions. Individuals hired under these conditions will begin as a Public Service Assistant III, Grade 10, Step 1 ($20.01/hr), and upon confirmation of completion of the MLIS degree will be moved to Librarian, Grade 11, Step 1 ($20.56/hr).
