Description
Tallmadge founder Reverend David Bacon’s plan for the town included an Academy as well as one central and six surrounding district schools. This brick building, located on the West side of Munroe Falls Road at 878 Northeast Avenue, is the last remaining example in Tallmadge of these old one-room district school houses. The school and outbuildings were constructed by Williston Alling in 1877 for a cost of $1393. It had been converted into a residence well before this photograph was taken, but the two entrance doors, one for boys and one for girls, remain.
