Description
The area known as Bettes Corners is named for Revolutionary War veteran Captain Nathaniel Bettes, who purchased land on the western edge of Tallmadge Township in 1815 and commissioned a log home on the southwest corner of the property (the northeast corner of present E. Tallmadge and Home Avenues).  The following year or so, he and his family moved to Tallmadge from Massachusetts.  Bettes set aside land for a schoolhouse on what is now the commercial building at 815 E. Tallmadge Avenue.  It was the site of a schoolhouse until 1927.  This class photograph includes teacher Bert Wilson.
