Description
Farming was an important industry in early Tallmadge. Most of the early pioneers were farmers and because the community was too small to support full time professionals, they were also famers. The doctor, blacksmith and many others were both famers and professionals or tradesmen. According to the 1900 federal population schedule, there were 144 working farms in Tallmadge. By 1930 there were less than 50. In 1915, farming was still the main work for Tallmadge residents. The image above shows men unloading corn stalks from a horse drawn wagon.
