Description
The Sperry name was associated with the manufacture of sewer pipe in Tallmadge as early as 1868 when Charles Tyron, Alfred Sperry, and Benjamin D. Wright first began manufacturing sewer pipe on East Avenue. Their successful business flourished until destroyed by fire in 1878. The plant was rebuilt and began operation as Sperry & Rattle in 1881. In 1902, it was purchased by Akron Vitrified Clay Manufacturing Company and, in 1927, became part of the U.S. Stoneware operation.
