Description
Music has always been an important part of Tallmadge’s history. A range of musical interests covering everything from singing schools that began in the early 1800s, to modern bands and orchestras have thrived in this community. Military bands began as early as 1817 from which many of the early brass bands were formed, and continued throughout the 1800s. In this photograph of the Tallmadge Coronet Band one of the leaders of the band is Frank Lawrence. Other men are identified as George Geistweite, leader; Henry Roth, trombone; Edward Barnes, clarinet; and Thomas Rhymes, bass.
