Description
This house was the residence of Capt. John A. Means, and at least two generations of his family. John Means was elected Summit County Clerk in 1860. In 1861, he left office to serve as Captain of the 115th Infantry, Company C for the Union Army during the Civil War. After the war, he was again elected County Clerk in 1869. His daughter, Elvira, married Reverend William Blakemore Marsh, pastor of The Congregational Church of Tallmadge from 1875-1885, and they called this home. Their daughter, Mabel, married Charles E. Ritchie, the first mayor of Tallmadge, and they also resided here. Tallmadge Oaks Apartments (120 North Ave.) is now located on this site.
