Description
In 1954, the Wooster Branch moved to a newly constructed building on Wooster Avenue. In 1971, Woodrow Nash, a University of Akron student artist painted the mural of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Frederick Douglass, and Malcom X. It was created off-site and attached to the wall in pieces. When the current branch was constructed, the artist added Sojourner Truth to his mural and created another mural for the branch meeting room which depicts local African- American leaders from the Akron community. Included in the piece are Helen Arnold, Ed Davis, Shirla McClain, Martin Chapman, Ray Brown, Horace Stewart, and Vernon Odom.
When part of Wooster Avenue was renamed to honor Vernon Odom, this branch became known as the Odom Boulevard Branch.
