Description
The first East Branch Library opened in 1922 and was located in the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company Club House. As it was the busiest branch, a decision was made to construct a new building to serve the community. Goodyear donated land and, in 1939, the Akron Public
Library dedicated its first building constructed and owned by the Library. The groundbreaking took place on June 20, 1938. Participants in were; (left to right) architect, Edwin Wagner; board member, C. Blake McDowell; Don Pfeiffer; Mrs Zelle Taylor; Halley T. Walker; Paul W. Litchfield; Library Board President, Jesse Dice; and Director, Will Collins.
