Description
The Firestone Tire and Rubber started making tires in Akron in 1903. The work was physically demanding and sometimes exposed the worker to dangerous chemicals. Throughout the first half of the 20th century, Akron was known as the Rubber Capital of the World. Firestone Tire and Rubber was purchased in the 1980s by Bridgestone and the headquarters moved to Tennessee.
