Librarian - Children's

Hours: Full-Time (37.5 hours) including evenings and weekend hours; not job-share eligible
Salary: Grade 11, $19.76/hour

Responsibilities:

Provides library service to customers with emphasis on information and reference services, programming, technology support and community engagement; plans and prepares displays; provides in-house and outreach services to community groups and special populations, i.e. schools, preschools, daycares and shelters; plans and conducts tours; performs collection maintenance duties; communicates and collaborates with Centralized Collection Development staff regarding trends and interests; compiles bibliographies and locates hard-to-find information; maintains awareness of changing technology and how to incorporate it into programming and direct customer service; and performs other tasks as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of professional library science, including familiarity with reference and bibliographic resources in the children’s services areas; good knowledge of reader interest levels; ability to develop programs; good research skills; ability to speak and write effectively; sound professional judgment; ability to direct the work of others; and good customer-relation skills, including a pleasing personality and the ability to get along well with others. A Master of Library and Information Science degree issued by an ALA-accredited school of library and information science is required. Some previous library experience and an interest in the intermediate/tween age groups are preferred. Applicants with 6 credit hours or less towards completion of the MLIS will also be considered under certain conditions. Individuals hired under these conditions will begin as Public Service Assistant III, Grade 10, Step 1 ($19.23/hour) and upon confirmation of completion of the MLIS degree will be moved to Librarian, Grade 11, Step 1, ($19.76/hour).

Youth Librarian

  Springfield-Lakemore Satellite Branch (opening Dec. 2017)
Hours: Full-time (37.5 hours), including weekend and weekend hours
Salary: Grade 11, $19.76/hour

Responsibilities:

Provides services to the age group of birth through age eighteen, including: collection maintenance and merchandising; planning and conducting youth, family and multi-age programming; actively representing the Library through visits to early childhood education centers, including Head Start programs, and elementary, middle, and high schools; establishing sustained community engagement relationships with local organizations and agencies; providing reference and readers’ advisory; creating attractive and appealing youth areas; performing daily circulation routines; supervising the branch in the absence of the Branch Manager, and performing other tasks as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of professional library science including familiarity with reference and bibliographic resources for youth from birth through age eighteen; knowledge of reader interest levels, publishers and their practices and a good knowledge of child development; ability to develop programs; good research skills; ability to speak and write effectively; sound professional judgment; ability to direct the work of others; and good customer relation skills including a pleasing personality and the ability to get along well with others. A Master of Library and Information Science degree issued by an ALA-accredited school of library and information science is required and some previous library experience is preferred. Responsibilities:

Provides services to customers in fourth through twelfth grades, including: collection maintenance and merchandising; planning and conducting programs; actively representing the Library in the community through visits to schools; cooperating with area teachers in the selection of appropriate materials; establishing sustained community engagement relationships with local organizations and agencies; providing reference and readers’ advisory; creating an attractive and appealing young adult area; cooperating closely with the Early Childhood Librarian in providing family and multi-age programming; performing daily circulation routines; and performing other tasks as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of professional library science, including familiarity with reference and bibliographic resources in the intermediate/young adult services areas; good knowledge of reader interest levels; good knowledge of intermediate/young adult publishers and their practices; ability to develop programs; good research skills; ability to speak and write effectively; sound professional judgment; ability to direct the work of others; and good customer-relation skills, including a pleasing personality and the ability to get along well with others.  A Master of Library and Information Science degree issued by an ALA-accredited school of library and information science is required, and some previous library experience is preferred.  Applicants within 6 credit hours or less toward completion of an M.L.I.S. degree will also be considered under certain conditions.  Individuals hired under these conditions will begin as a Public Service Assistant lll, Grade 10, Step 1, ($19.23/hr), and upon confirmation of completion of the M.L.I.S. degree will be moved to Librarian, Grade 11, Step 1, ($19.76/hr).

Digital Marketing Specialist

Salary: Grade 12, $21.87/hr.

Responsibilities:

Maintains all aspects of the Library's social media presence, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube. Creates (e.g. writes and photographs) and distributes content across social media platforms to support the Library’s mission and goals; promotes and advocates for the Library by engaging with social media users to increase public awareness and interest in Library programs and services;  develops strategies to increase the Library‘s presence, following and engagement on social media; facilitates the Library’s social media advisory team;  assists the marketing department in related marketing tasks, including writing emails, electronic newsletters and other digital marketing tools. Performs other tasks as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Demonstrated experience with the following: writing on social media platforms, including creating dynamic and engaging content; developing and implementing social media strategies and researching trends; posting with social media management platforms and formatting for desktop and mobile devices; and using social media management software. Proven editing skills including the knowledge of grammatical rules and the ability to proofread own writing. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.  Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, or related field or equivalent combination of related coursework and work experience. Three to five years of work experience using social media platforms preferred. Previous customer service experience a plus.
